In support of Iranian Students

Two years ago the intervention and the support of many academics, trade unionists, human right activists throughout the world helped stop the wave of political murders in Iran and eventually forced the Iranian government to admit that death squads associated with its ministry of Information were behind political murders. Over the last few days Iranian students have once more taken part in protests and demonstrations, defending political rights in Iran and expressing their opposition to privatisation of higher education in Iran. Many have been arrested, others are injured, yet the protests continue. In their defence ,we are re launching the international campaign in defence of Iranian students and we would like to obtain your signature in support of the statement below. International support for students and lecturers in Iran is of vital importance to the current political situation in Iran. While condemning US/UK aggression in the region, we hope you will support the statement in Support of Iranian students.

International Campaign in Defence of Iranian students
Since the 10th June 2003 Iranian students at Universities in Tehran, Isfahan, Ahvaz, Shiraz ... have protested against religious dictatorship as well as plans to privatise higher education in Iran. On a number of occasions protesters were attacked by the security services and religious club wielders have injured many students. The International Campaign in Defence of Iranian students calls for :
1-The immediate, unconditional release of all the students arrested in this and other protests.
2- Condemn the continued harassment and detention of political activists in Iran and demand an end to the terror unleashed by the security forces.
3- Strongly support the students' demands for freedom, against dictatorship and privatisation of higher education.
4- Notes that the current struggles are not only against religious dictatorship but also against neo liberal economic policies.
5- Calls on all political organisations, trade unions, political and cultural personalities, academics and scientists to join the international campaign to defend Iranian students and to actively protest at state sponsored repression in Iran.
